Balanced Billing
While Providers are encouraged to follow the maximum fee levels approved by SIMPLeTPA, Providers are NOT required to limit their fees IF the Patient agrees IN ADVANCE to pay a fee that exceeds the patient’s benefit level. The patient and Provider will have the ability to confirm their maximum benefit level prior to treatment by obtaining a Guarantee of Premium (GOP) authorization. For emergency situations where the patient is unable to consent or complete a GOP, the maximum plan benefit levels will represent the maximum payment amount to be charged to the patient. Patients will be personally liable for any fees they agree to over and above the GOP. Any claim for amounts in excess of the GOP shall absolutely be for the personal account of the Member and shall not demand reimbursement from SIMPLeTPA or from their sponsor/employer.
